In Thursday night’s 31-21 fourth-quarter defeat to the five-time AFC East division champion Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins were very giving.

In a hotly contested NFL game, we can never predict what play or moment will result in a win or a defeat, but the more opportunities an opponent has to influence the outcome, the worse the outcome could be.

Bills wins over Dolphins

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Miami Dolphins 31–21 on Thursday night thanks to three touchdown throws from Josh Allen and an interception by Terrel Bernard of Tua Tagovailoa with three minutes remaining. The Bills (3-0) continued to dominate Miami with 108 yards rushing and a two-yard touchdown from James Cook.

Buffalo has defeated their AFC East foe seven times in a row and fourteen times in the last fifteen, including playoffs. Discipline issues and mistakes continued to plague the Dolphins (0-3). More concerns over coach Mike McDaniels’ job security may arise as a result of their poorest start since 2019.

Miami Dolphins

Following a 2023 wildcard loss to Kansas City, the Dolphins, who made the playoffs in each of McDaniel’s first two seasons, fell to 8-13. With 43 touchdown passes in those games, Allen’s record climbed to 14-2 over Miami as he finished 22 of 28 for 213 yards.

During the nine years that Bills coach Sean McDermott has been in charge, Buffalo has won ten consecutive home games against the Dolphins. Miami was behind 28–21 and in danger of tying the game when Bernard made his interception.

At the Buffalo 21, Bernard jumped a pass meant for Jaylen Waddle, giving the Dolphins a first down. It was a crucial play for a Bills defense that had had trouble getting Miami off the field and the only turnover of the game.
