After Jimmy Kimmel’s show was taken off ABC’s airways indefinitely last week, over 400 of Hollywood’s top actors signed an open letter in support of the late-night presenter.
Letter Backing Jimmy Kimmel

According to the letter, attempts to retaliate against journalists, artists, and others for their speech “strike at the heart of what it means to live in a free country.” The final words of the message exhort all Americans to stand up for our freedom of speech.
The American Civil Liberties Union organized the letter, which claims that ABC’s decision to suspend Kimmel’s program is “a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.”
Who are those Celebeities?
Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, Selena Gomez, Tom Hanks, Olivia Rodrigo, Ben Stiller, Jamie Lee Curtis, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Diego Luna, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Natalie Portman, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, and Kerry Washington are among the signatories (the complete list of names is posted below).

On September 17, Disney declared that Kimmel’s program would be suspended due to comments the host made on the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The conservatives, Kimmel said, were “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
Conservatives, including Brendan Carr, the chair of the Federal Communications Commission, quickly criticized his remarks. In order to avoid having their broadcast license revoked, Carr put pressure on ABC and local broadcasters to “take action” against Kimmel.
