‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ returned on Tuesday, Sept. 23, six days after being put on indefinite vacation for remarks he made about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Tuesday night marked Kimmel’s first episode since Disney announced its comeback on Monday after nearly a week off the air. Kimmel received a standing ovation, followed by yells of “Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy!” and continued cheering.
Jimmy Kimmel returns

“If you are just joining us, we are preempting your regularly scheduled encore episode of ‘Celebrity Family Feud,’ we’re bringing you this special report,” premiered Jimmy Kimmel. “I’m happy to be here with you tonight.”
The television titan produced the trailblazing sitcom “All in the Family,” which ran from 1971 to 1979 and addressed social and political issues. That placed Lear on President Richard Nixon’s “enemies” list at the time.
“I think I just got lucky,” Lear said “Democracy Now!” in 2016, about being on Nixon’s list. “I think we used the tape in the ‘American Masters’ documentary where he is talking about with [H.R.] Haldeman in his office, he’s talking about ‘that show that makes fun of a good man.’ Those were his words.”

Jimmy Kimmel Suspension
He went on to thank his fellow late-night talk show hosts, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and David Letterman, as well as right-leaning critics such as Clay Travis and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for their support throughout his suspension. Kimmel then addressed, but did not apologize for, the original comments that led to his suspension.
“I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to say and do tonight, and the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference,” Kimmel told the crowd. “If you like me, then you like me. If not, you don’t. I have no aspirations of changing anyone’s mind.”
