Makena White, the girlfriend of PGA golfer Jake Knapp, died at the age of 28, a friend announced on social media. On Friday, Sept. 26, a friend posted on White’s Instagram account: “Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week.”

“She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie,” the statement continued, referring to White’s two dogs. White was “one of a kind” and “had this rare way of making you feel special,” her friend said in a statement. “Her huge heart was always overflowing with love.”

The piece also emphasized White’s extraordinary ability to leave a lasting impression on people. The notice also invited donations to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund.

In the Instagram post announcing White’s death, a friend commended her generosity. Makena was one of a kind. “She had this unique ability to make you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love,” her friend remarked.

“To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.”

To commemorate White’s memory, the friend suggested donating to either the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund. Crystal, White’s mother, had attended the clinic before her death in 2022, according to a post on their website.

White’s last post before her friend’s statement was a love homage to her 31-year-old boyfriend, Knapp. “Year 2 of first fairway hugs and watching you fulfill your dreams 🫶🏼 “Second season in the books — forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many more,” she wrote beside a selfie of herself and Knapp. “I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud 💛,” she ended by saying.

On May 31, she wished Knapp a happy birthday, describing him as her “very best friend.” “No matter where our crazy adventures take us, you make every place feel like home 💛.” “I love you, sweet boy,” she said.
