During the Guardians’ sixth-inning rally against the Tigers on Tuesday, DH David Fry was struck in the face while attempting to bunt on a pitch from left-hander Tarik Skubal.
Skubal delivered a 99.1 mph four-seamer on the inner half of the plate, and Fry was squared around in a 2-1 count. The ball (which was deemed a foul) struck Fry in the face, knocking him to the ground immediately.
Guardians’ David Fry hit on face

When Tarik Skubal hit a 2-1 pitch to Fry in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Guardians behind 2-1 and runners on the bases with no outs, Fry promptly turned to square for a sacrifice bunt.
However, Skubal, the Tigers’ ace, threw a fastball that was too far inside at 99 mph. The pitch struck the top of Fry’s bat as he made contact with it, then veered into his face.
When Fry finally got to his feet, blood was pouring from his nose. As you might anticipate, Fry’s night was finished when a cart pulled up to remove him from the field.

Unfortunately for Fry and the Guardians, the ball was deemed a foul ball and the count changed to 2-2 because it made contact with the bat before striking him in the face. Fry was replaced for the rest of the game by pinch hitter George Valera, who completed the at-bat.

Fry remained aware the entire time, according to Vogt, but the Guardians declared that he was being evaluated further at Lutheran Medical Center.
According to the club, he was subsequently taken to the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus for additional examination and monitoring, where he was probably going to be detained overnight. Vogt stated, “David and his family are on everyone’s mind right now.” It’s a really frightening moment, but we’re obviously happy he’s okay. I’m considering him.
